NCT U is the first subunit of NCT, introduced by SM Entertainment in 2016. Unlike the project's other subunits, NCT U does not have a fixed lineup, with members selected for each release based on the concept, musical style, or performance of a particular song. This flexible format allows different combinations of NCT members to promote together across albums, special projects, and live stages.
